Bayern Munich vs Werder Bremen 14/12/19

14 December 2019

Bayern Munich entertain Werder Bremen at the Allianz Arena looking to bounce back after two consecutive Bundesliga (BL) failures.

The hosts have suffered back-to-back league defeats ahead of this round, with both of those reverses coming via the identical 2-1 scoreline. As a result, they now sit seven points adrift of table-toppers Borussia Monchengladbach, which practically puts them in a ‘must-win’ situation here. But, the Bavarians can draw inspiration from their exception recent home H2H record against Werder. The reigning BL holders have won all eight of their previous top-flight home H2Hs with Werder, scoring four or more goals in seven of those clashes. That record coincides with their impressive scoring form this term. Free-scoring Bayern side scored 2+ match goals in eight of ten competitive home games this season.

As for the visitors, they are probably the largest underdog of Matchday 15, as they face an uphill task of halting a disastrous 17-game losing streak in top-flight H2Hs with Bayern. Werder’s recent form indicates they are unlikely to pull off a miracle here, as they’ve suffered three defeats in their last four BL fixtures (W1, L3), conceding at least two goals in three of those matches. A leaky defense could be throwing a spanner in the works too, given that ‘Die Werderaner’ have failed to keep a blank sheet in all seven of their BL road trips this term, conceding over 1.5 match goals on six of those occasions. The one consolation for the traveling side is that nine of their total 14 BL points have come away from home (64%).
