Bayern Munich vs Union Berlin 26/10/19
26 October 2019
Bayern Munich welcome Union Berlin to the Allianz Arena for their first-ever Bundesliga (BL) encounter.
Winless in their last two BL outings (D1, L1), the perennial champions will be desperate to build on a 3-2 away success against Olympiacos in the Champions League. Atypically for Bayern, they’ve won just two of four BL home fixtures this term (D1, L1), although both of those wins have seen them score at least four goals and concede a maximum of one. Bayern’s home game usually sparks into life after the break, with nine of their 13 BL home goals scored so far coming in the second half (69.23%). Goals keep flowing in the Bavarians’ matches in all competitions lately, with all five of their last competitive games producing at least three goals and seeing both teams score.
Although the visitors brought their four-game losing BL run to a halt with a 2-0 home triumph over Freiburg, they can’t rest peacefully sitting just one point clear of the relegation zone. Big underdogs ahead of the kick-off, Union Berlin will hardly pick up their first-ever BL away win here (D2, L2). For the newly-promoted club, goals have been at a premium when away from home, with Urs Fischer’s players drawing a blank in three successive BL road trips following a 1-1 draw with Augsburg back in August. All four of Union Berlin’s league away fixtures have featured under 2.5 goals, with each of those games seeing the goals scored/conceded by Union restricted to one half or the other. Also, a stunning 3-1 home victory over Borussia Dortmund aside, they have lost both of their remaining clashes with the top-five sides without scoring a single goal.
