Bayern Munich vs Hertha BSC 05/10/20
5 October 2020
Fresh from winning the German Super Cup (3-2 against Borussia Dortmund), Bayern Munich will be looking to return to winning ways in the Bundesliga when they take on Hertha BSC at the Allianz Arena.
Although the reigning champions humiliated Schalke 04 8-0 on Matchday 1, they suffered a shock 4-1 away loss to TSG Hoffenheim last time out. Yet, both of those ‘goal-friendly’ contests have featured over 1.5 goals in each half, with the opening goal continually arriving before the 20-minute mark. However, Allianz Arena has been a fortress this calendar year, as the ‘Bavarians’ failed to pick up three points only once in 12 competitive home fixtures since the turn of 2020 (W11, D1). Remarkably, eight of those 11 victories have seen Bayern net over 2.5 goals, which has not been the case in their last three top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (W1, D2).
Meanwhile, Hertha demolished Werder Bremen 4-1 in their Bundesliga curtain-raiser but have failed to build on that, succumbing to a 3-1 home loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 2. As was the case with Bayern, all four of Hertha’s top-flight halves this term have contained over 1.5 goals. Notably, ‘Die Alte Dame’ have been a fun team to watch on the road this calendar year, as seven of their nine league trips since the beginning of 2020 have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Against this backdrop of high-scoring affairs, Bruno Labbadia’s men have drawn a blank in five of their last six Bundesliga trips to Munich (D2, L4).
