Bayern Munich vs Borussia M’gladbach 07/10/18

07 October 2018

Bayern Munich set to take on Borussia Monchengladbach at the Allianz Stadium this weekend, as the defending champions look to end a 3-game winless streak.

After a promising start of the season, which saw them wrapping up the first season’s title thanks to an outstanding 5-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, the holders have snatched four straight league victories, defeating Benfica in the Champions League opener, in the process. However, the Reds have slowed down a bit over the last seven days. Although it’s early to talk about a potential crisis, three straight failures, including the one against Ajax in the Champions League during midweek, imply Niko Kovac might be having some problems in the dressing room. Before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Hertha last weekend, the Bavarians have been held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Augsburg at home, as they now trail the Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund by a point.

Meanwhile, Die Fohlen, who opened the season with a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen, are yet to clinch an away triumph, as they were held to two draws with Wolfsburg and Augsburg, while they’ve suffered a 4-2 loss to Hertha. But, a maximum of three home triumphs currently place the Borussians 3 points behind the BVB, as Dieter Hecking hopes to get a positive outcome in Bavaria and keep up the pace with the leaders. Still, the visitors were thoroughly outclassed by the Bundesliga champions last season, as Bayern destroyed them by five goals to one.

Kovac won’t have Rafinha, Corentin Tolisso, and Kingsley Coman at his disposal as all are struggling with injuries, while Hecking won’t be able to count on Josip Drmic, Keanen Bennetts, Raffael, and Julio Villalba.
