Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund 07/04/19
7 April 2019
Two German heavyweights go toe-to-toe at the Allianz Arena as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund battle it out for the Bundesliga title.
A disappointing 1-1 away draw with Freiburg last time out sees the hosts trailing Dortmund by two points, which is why they have to wrap up all three points here. Bayern’s recent league home form indicates they have real chances of pulling off a win in this game, considering the Bavarians have won all seven of their previous BL home outings – scoring 24 goals while conceding barely two. What’s more, the reigning holders have hammered BVB in all three of their previous Bundesliga H2Hs at this venue, bagging 15 goals (4+ in each) while restricting arch-rivals to just two in the process. Additionally, the Reds’ last four home outings across all competitions have produced staggering 25 goals, with Niko Kovac’s men netting 5+ match goals in three.
Meanwhile, the visitors seem to have managed to overcome a tumultuous period, registering three consecutive BL wins ahead of this round. Interestingly, three of BVB’s last four BL triumphs have come against teams from the upper half of the table, with Lucien Favre’s players bagging over 1.5 goals per match in each while keeping one clean sheet along the way. The Black and Yellows’ main problem here could be their torrid road form in the recent period (W1, D2, L2). In that period, the BL toppers have scored one goal or less four times while allowing 2+ match goals on three occasions. For the visitors, the majority of action takes place in the second half. Dortmund’s strong second-half performances have seen them scored nine of their last 12 goals after the break.
