Bayern Munich vs Bochum
Relentless Bayern Munich play host to out-of-sorts Bochum at the Allianz Stadium in what appears to be a routine Bundesliga task for the hosts.
Pieces are coming to place for Julian Nagelsmann following a 1-1 away draw with Borussia Monchengladbach on the opening Bundesliga weekend. His Bayern Munich side have since hit the ground running, racking up a five-match winning streak in all competitions, including a 3-0 thumping of Barcelona at Camp Nou in their Champions League curtain-raiser. The ‘Bavarians’ are odds-on favorites to stretch their three-match winning league streak against promoted Bochum as they look to reclaim the top spot in the Bundesliga standings. Based on their recent H2H experience, it should be plain sailing for Bayern, who have suffered just one defeat across their last 27 top-flight meetings with this opposition (W19, D7). What’s more, the hosts have lost only one of their 34 Bundesliga matches against Bochum in Munich (W25, D8), courtesy of a 2-0 reverse in August 1991.
In the meantime, Bochum could be on the verge of returning to the second tie only one season since returning to the top-flight as they’ve lost three of their opening four Bundesliga matches this term (W1). Winless in their last 29 consecutive top-flight trips to Munich (D5, L24), the visitors’ hopes of snapping a two-game losing away streak at the beginning of the season look far-fetched. Another potential defeat would see Bochum equal the club’s worst-ever five-game start to a new Bundesliga season, back in 1994/95. After losing two straight away league games for the first time this calendar year, ‘Die Unabsteigbaren’ could lose three on the spin for the first time since the start of 2018. Considering they’ve conceded precisely three goals in four of their last five Bundesliga trips to Bayern, that prospect looks quite likely.
