Bayern Munich vs Augsburg 08/03/20
8 March 2020
Fresh from the DFB Pokal success against Schalke 04, Bayern Munich return to the Bundesliga (BL) action this weekend as they welcome out-of-form Augsburg to the Allianz Arena.
The Bavarians have been a force to be reckoned with since the turn of the year, winning nine of ten matches in all competitions, with the lone exception of a goalless home draw with RB Leipzig. Impressively, eight of those nine triumphs saw Bayern score at least three match goals, with seven witnessing them net over 2.5 goals inside one half. Despite failing to find the net against Leipzig back in February, 44.44% (16) of Bayern’s total 36 BL home goals scored came in their last five games here. Although seven of their 11 BL home goals conceded so far arrived in the first half (63.64%), the perennial German champions have often managed to undo the damage after the break, with 67% of their goals at Allianz Arena coming in the second half (24/36).
Winless in four league fixtures (D1, L3), the visitors face a daunting prospect of picking up points against a side they’ve lost to in three of their last four top-flight trips (D1). Four consecutive BL away losses make Augsburg’s task even more complicated, especially considering they’ve conceded over 1.5 goals in each while drawing a blank in three. Importantly, their away game increasingly slows down after the break, with only five of their 12 BL road goals scored coming in the second half (42%). In turn, the ‘Fuggerstädter’ have allowed the majority (62%) of their league away goals conceded in the second 45 minutes (18/29).
