Bayern München vs Sevilla 25/09/20
25 September 2020
Bayern München and Sevilla will be looking to claim their second UEFA Super Cup when they lock horns at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
It’s Bayern’s fifth appearance in the UEFA Super Cup, with three of the previous four resulting in a loss (W1). Despite their last European clash against a Spanish opponent bringing an 8-2 thumping of Barcelona, it was only Bayern’s second win in their previous seven such fixtures (D2, L3). However, the ‘Bavarians’ have won all three of their UEFA ties against the La Liga sides held on neutral territory and are unbeaten in 16 consecutive European matches outside Munich (W13, D3). Remarkably, rampant Hansi Flick’s side netted over 1.5 goals in 15 of those 16 games. Equally impressive at the back, perennial Bundesliga champions have kept a blank sheet in seven of their previous 11 European fixtures on the road.
Meanwhile, Sevilla will try to win the UEFA Super Cup for the second time in the club’s history after suffering four defeats in their previous five attempts (W1). ‘Los Rojiblancos’ boast a solid European record against the German clubs (W12, D6, L4) despite two of their last three such clashes resulted in a loss. Also, Julen Lopetegui’s men produced an outstanding European campaign back in 2019/20, winning 75% of their UEFA matches back last season (W9, D2, L1). Notably, six of Sevilla’s nine triumphs during their triumphant Europa League campaign yielded a clean sheet, with five coming via at least a two-goal margin. But, the Andalusian giants have lost their only previous UEFA tie against Bayern Munich, succumbing to a 2-1 aggregate loss in the 2017/19 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals (1-2 H, 0-0 A).
