Bayer Leverkusen vs Werder Bremen 17/03/19
17 March 2019
Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen are set to meet each other at the BayArena as the visitors look for revenge on a disastrous 6-2 home loss in the first half of the season.
Back-to-back wins in both of their previous Bundesliga outings currently put the hosts in the sixth place, with a four-point deficit to fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach. The Company XI have pulled off six triumphs in their last seven BL home outings (W6, L1), including three that have come in the build-up for this meeting. Five of Leverkusen’s seven home wins have seen them score 2+ match goals, with Peter Bosz’s men beating their rivals to nil on five occasions in the process. However, Bayer have failed to outplay Werder five times in six of their previous H2H meetings at this venue (W1, D3, L2), scoring exactly one goal per match four times.
On the other hand, the visitors are unbeaten in 2019 (W3, D6) as they come into this encounter off the back of a stunning 4-2 home victory over Schalke 04. However, Die Werderaner are winless in their last three Bundesliga road fixtures (D3) with all of their three draws in that period ending with the identical 1-1 scoreline. Werder’s indifferent road form (W4, D4, L4) could be a problem in their pursuit of the Europa League promotion as they currently sit six points adrift of their next rivals. The fact, Die Grün-Weißen have kept just two clean sheets on 12 BL road trips this term should trouble Florian Kohfeldt, especially considering his team has lost all four of their BL away games in which they’ve allowed over 1.5 goals per match. Another potential worry for Kohfeldt could be that his players have scored 2+ match goals on the road barely twice so far.
