Bayer Leverkusen vs Koln 18/06/20
18 June 2020
Bayer Leverkusen will try to bring a two-game losing streak in their Bundesliga (BL) H2H meetings with Koln when the two sides lock horns at the BayArena this midweek.
Although they’ve endured mixed fortunes since the league’s restart (W3, D1, L2), ‘Die Werkself’ enter this round harboring a one-point lead over fifth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach. Five of Leverkusen’s six BL fixtures in the post-pandemic period saw both teams on the scoresheet, with four producing over 2.5 total goals. But, Leverkusen’s dip in form has seen them go from four consecutive BL home triumphs to two straight defeats, with four of those matches producing over 3.5 goals. Another high-scoring affair is most definitely on the cards – each of their six previous top-flight H2Hs held at this venue witnessed over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.
Meanwhile, the visitors have been a quite exciting team to watch in the post-pandemic period, with five of their six league matches since the BL’s restart featuring over 2.5 goals and both teams score. However, Koln come into this clash on a run of seven consecutive league matches without a victory (D3, L4). During that seven-game sequence, ‘Die Geißböcke’ conceded over 1.5 goals on seven occasions, shipping a total of 16. In turn, Markus Gisdol’s men have allowed over 1.5 goals in 67% (ten) of 15 BL road trips so far this season, conceding a total of 33.
