Bayer Leverkusen vs Bayern Munich 06/06/20

06 June 2020

Bayern Munich will look to snap Bayer Leverkusen’s two-game winning streak in the Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs when the two sides lock horns at the BayArena this weekend.

It’s been ‘all or nothing’ for Leverkusen after the crisis in Germany has subsided (W3, L1), with three of those results (win/loss) seeing over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, and producing multiple-goal margins. In turn, before succumbing to a dismal 4-1 defeat to Wolfsburg, the hosts had racked up a four-game winning BL home streak, notching up at least two goals in each of those successes. Curiously, Peter Bosz’s men have been more active before the halftime break so far, with 54% (14) of their 26 BL home goals scored coming in the first half of play. But, they’d need to prevent Bayern from finding the opening goal to boost their chances of winning here, given that they won just a single point from four BL home fixtures in which they’ve allowed the first goal (D1, L3).

On the other hand, the visitors have maintained their impressive form after the coronavirus crisis, securing all four victories in the post-pandemic period to bring their winning league streak to eight straight games. In fact, the perennial German champions travel to Leverkusen on a 15-game unbeaten BL run (W14, D1), with 12 of their 14 wins during that stretch yielding multiple-goal margins. Away from home, Hansi Flick’s players have won seven consecutive top-flight fixtures, keeping a clean sheet in the last three. Indeed, having shipped just 15 goals in 14 BL trips so far this term, the ‘Bavarians’ boast the league’s joint-best defensive away record.
