Barcelona vs Sevilla 07/10/19

7 October 2019

Strongly encouraged by a 2-1 comeback triumph over Inter Milan in the Champions League, Barcelona will be eager to extend their unbeaten run in H2Hs with Sevilla to eight consecutive La Liga (LL) games (W7, D1) when the two sides lock horns at the Camp Nou this weekend.

The reigning holders have been impeccable at home this term, registering three wins from as many LL games in Catalonia. Curiously, all of those triumphs have seen Barcelona score 2+ match goals and concede precisely one inside the first 45 minutes. Also, two of those wins have ended with the identical 5-2 scoreline, with Ernesto Valverde’s side netting seven of those ten goals after the break. The Catalans now face a ‘regular customer’ who last won an LL H2H here in 2002. In fact, the Blaugrana have won 14 of the last 16 LL H2Hs here (D2), each time by scoring at least two goals. If that’s not enough to comfort the home fans, then ten successive LL triumphs at the Camp Nou should certainly do the job.

On the other hand, the visitors go into this encounter on the back of a narrow 1-0 home triumph over APOEL in their midweek’s Europa League showdown. It was Sevilla’s second successive competitive victory settled by a narrow one-goal margin following a 3-2 home success against Real Sociedad last weekend. The Andalusian giants have been impressive on the road at the beginning of the season, locking up three consecutive LL away win without conceding a single goal. However, their strong run has been brought to a halt with a 3-2 away defeat to Eibar that has seen Sevilla blow a two-goal lead in the second half.
