Australia vs South Korea 17/11/18

17 November 2018

Australia and South Korea are set to face-off against each other in a friendly encounter that will take place at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Although the Socceroos managed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, their performances at the final tournament were everything but encouraging. Apart from a 1-1 draw with Denmark, Australia had suffered two defeats to France and Peru, having conceded two goals apiece. After returning home from Russia, Graham Arnold replaced Bert van Marwijk on the national team bench. The 55-year-old tactician has defeated Kuwait in his debut by four goals to nil, but it was the only game Australia played after the final tournament. Apart from a 2-0 defeat to Peru, the Socceroos have notched at least one goal in five out of the previous six matches but have failed to keep a clean sheet four times in the process.

On the other hand, the Taegeuk Warriors have featured in four friendlies after the end of the World Cup, having clinched two triumphs while being held to two draws. Paulo Bento’s players have outscored Costa Rica and Uruguay, but have failed to beat Chile and Panama. The AFC-based team had impressed in their last match in Russia, having outplayed Germany in the group stage following two successive losses in the opening two games. South Korea have scored at least two goals in the past five encounters, failing to find the back of the net only against Chile. Meanwhile, they’ve kept a clean sheet three times in the previous five matches.
