Augsburg vs Borussia Mönchengladbach 29/02/20
29 February 2020
Borussia Mönchengladbach will look to extend their unbeaten run in Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs with Augsburg to seven games (W3, D3) when the two sides lock horns at WWK Arena this weekend.
Having won one out of six league outings since the turn of the year (D1, L4), the hosts’ once safe distance to the danger zone is now narrowed to just seven points. Frustratingly for their fans, the ‘Fuggerstädter’ drew a blank in three of those six matches, allowing over 1.5 goals four times in the process. Yet, WWK Arena has been a venue of entertainment this season, as 82% (nine) of Augsburg’s 11 BL fixtures here have produced over 2.5 goals, with eight seeing both teams on the scoresheet. In turn, all but two of their eight top-flight home clashes against Mönchengladbach saw both sides hit the net, with four of the six previous featuring three goals or more. Impressively, Augsburg have yet to lose at home to their visitors in the league (W3, D5).
In the meantime, unbeaten in four of their last BL games (W2, D2), the Foals desperately need a win here to keep up the top-four chase, as they currently sit level on points with fifth-placed Bayer Leverkusen. The visitors have played out some ‘high-scoring affairs’ recently, as three of their four previous league matches each saw over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. But, the Prussians have failed to live up to expectations away from home in the recent period, picking up just one win in their last six BL road trips (D2, L3). Mönchengladbach’s struggling during that stretch comes down to the fact that Marco Rose’s men have conceded over 1.5 goals four times during that six-game sequence, managing a clean sheet only once.
