Atletico Madrid vs Monaco 29/11/18

29 November 2018

Atletico Madrid will host AS Monaco to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano looking to clinch a victory, as they fight Borussia Dortmund for the top spot in the Champions League Group A.

La Liga giants have started their European journey with two straight triumphs, having outplayed Monaco on the road and Club Brugge at home although they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in both encounters. However, Los Colchoneros have suffered a devastating 4-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in Germany before taking revenge at home by securing a 2-0 victory. Los Rojiblancos are unbeaten in their last six games across all competitions, having wrapped up four wins while being held to two draws in the process. Goals have been in short supply in their past six competitive events, as only one of the games ended with three or more goals. Meanwhile, Diego Simeone’s men have bagged a minimum of two goals twice in the last three competitive clashes, while managed to keep a clean sheet once in the run.

A poor haul of just one point from their opening three matches has seen Monaco already lost any chance of qualifying for the knockout stage. The French outfit is going through a terrible period, as they struggle on all fields this campaign. With a record of three defeats and one draw, they are nailed to the bottom of the group, while they also fight to escape the relegation zone in the Ligue 1. The Monégasques have lost to Atletico Madrid in the first leg by two goals to one at home, after which they’ve lost 3-0 to Borussia Dortmund. In the two remaining games against Club Brugge, the club from the principality played out a 1-1 draw in Belgium before suffering a nightmarish 4-0 defeat on home soil. However, a 1-0 win over Caen last weekend has brought Monaco’s disastrous 16-game winless run to an end, as Thierry Henry hopes to build on the recent success.
