Atletico Madrid vs Mallorca 04/07/20
04 July 2020
Atletico Madrid and Mallorca go head-to-head at the Wanda Metropolitano this week in what might as well be a low-scoring La Liga contest. Indeed, four of their five previous top-flight H2Hs have featured under 2.5 goals, including the last three.
Unbeaten in 11 consecutive La Liga outings (W6, D5), Atletico go into this encounter on the back of a 2-2 away draw with Barcelona that has marked an 11 straight league game in which Diego Simeone’s side managed to find the net. Also, the Wanda Metropolitano has been somewhat a stronghold this season, as Los Colchoneros lost only one of 16 La Liga fixtures held here (W10, D5) and conceded a league second-low ten goals. Yet, none of Atletico’s ten top-flight home wins this campaign has produced a full-time margin of over 2.5 goals, with six yielding a single-goal margin. In turn, six of their last eight La Liga H2Hs held here have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W2, D5, L1).
Meanwhile, the visitors brought their five-game winless league run to a halt last time out in remarkable fashion (D1, L4), dismantling Celta Vigo 5-1 on home turf. But, Los Bermellones remain the division’s weakest away side after picking up just a single triumph on the road this term (D2, L13). That’s mainly thanks to a fragile defense that has conceded a league joint-high 36 goals on an average of 2.25 goals allowed per La Liga away match. Indeed, Vicente Moreno’s men have shipped over 1.5 goals in 11 of 16 league trips so far. Additionally, Mallorca have lost all four of their previous trips to the current top-seven sides, with three of those defeats yielding a multiple-goal margin.
