Atletico Madrid vs Leganes 09/03/19

09 March 2019

Atletico Madrid host Leganes to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano looking to post their third straight LL home win over the unpredictable visitors and try to keep up the pace with Barcelona.

The hosts have raised their game over the past couple of weeks, going from two straight defeats to four consecutive wins across all competitions. Although Los Colchoneros pulled off three successive La Liga victories (all with the identical 2-0 scoreline), they are still sitting seven points adrift of the league leaders Barcelona. With a tally of ten wins and only one defeat in the opening 13 LL home fixtures, Los Rojiblancos boast the best home record in the Spanish top flight. Interestingly, just one of those ten triumphs has seen Los Indios allowing their rivals to put the ball behind Jan Oblak’s back. No team has conceded fewer goals at home than Atletico Madrid (7), with Diego Simeone’s ‘warriors’ keeping eight clean sheets in ten of their last competitive home clashes.

On the other hand, the visitors are one of several ‘unexpected’ contenders for the European promotion as they sit 11th in the table with a four-point deficit to fourth-placed Sevilla. But, far more comfortable at home, Los Pepineros have collected barely nine points in 13 LL away meetings, which is the second joint-worst road record in the Spanish top tier. Mainly thanks to poor displays in the final third, Mauricio Pellegrino’s men have suffered four defeats on their last five road trips across all competitions (W1, L4). Only two sides have scored fewer goals away from home that Leganes (10), with Pellegrino’s crew failing to hit the net in three of their previous five games on the road.
