Atletico Madrid vs Club Brugge 04/10/18

04 October 2018

Atletico Madrid are set to face off against Club Brugge in the Champions League clash that shall take place at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, hoping to snatch a second European triumph and cement the top spot in Group A.

Los Colchoneros have outplayed AS Monaco in France on the opening matchday, clinching a 2-1 defeat, after which they’ve grabbed two La Liga victories, over Getafe and Huesca. In the last weekend’s city derby with Real Madrid, Los Rojiblancos have split the points with the arch-rivals after playing out a scoreless draw, which was the third game in a row Diego Simeone’s side managed to keep a clean sheet. This season, Atletico featured in three home games, securing two wins without conceding a goal, while drawing 1-1 to Eibar.

Meanwhile, the Blauw-Zwart have suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund at home in the Champions League opener, as Ivan Leko hopes to see his side avoiding a second successive failure. Although the holders demolished Cercle Brugge 4-0 on the eve of the midweek’s clash with the Spanish heavyweights, a 2-0 loss to the lower-league outfit Deinze in the Croky Cup shows Leko has to fix some problems that concern his backline.

Due to some physical issues, Stefan Savic will have to skip the encounter, while Gelson Martins should start from the bench after picking up a minor knee injury. As for the visitors, Kaveh Rezaei will be the only missing player after undergoing knee surgery.
