Atletico Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao 27/10/19

27 October 2019

Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao will lock horns at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano this weekend.

Although unbeaten in five of their last La Liga (LL) outings, the hosts have played out four draws in that sequence (W1), with all of those matches featuring under 2.5 goals. In fact, three of those stalemates have ended with the same 0-0 scoreline, with both of Atletico’s wins during that run coming via the identical 2-0 scoreline. For Los Colchoneros, goals have been at a premium at home so far, as they’ve scored just five league goals at the Wanda Metropolitano this term, netting one goal or less in four of five LL home outings. But, Diego Simeone’s men have a good opportunity to improve their goalscoring tally here, as they’ve scored 2+ match goals in four of their last home H2Hs with Athletic Bilbao, winning all of them.

Meanwhile, Athletic’s strong start to the season is slowly fading away, although they still trail fourth-placed Real Sociedad by only three points. Los Leones travel here, having failed to pick up three points in four consecutive LL fixtures (D2, L2), breaking the deadlock in both of those draws. What’s more, the visitors’ dismal away record (D3, L1) can be a major influence here, especially as they’ve scored just two goals in four LL trips so far. Frustratingly for the traveling side, only three of their total 13 LL points have come away from home (23%). Bilbao’s difficulties on the road will not help their efforts to post their first competitive win in Madrid since 2011 (D1, L9).
