Atalanta vs Sassuolo 27/05/19

27 May 2019

The Champions League promotion contenders Atalanta host mid-table Sassuolo to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia hoping to seal the top-four finish with a win here.

The hosts seem to be on the verge of securing their elusive first Champions League promotion, as they sit one point clear of fifth-placed AC Milan ahead of the final Serie A fixture. La Dea’s impressive run of form in the closing stage of the campaign has seen them rack up a 13-game SA unbeaten run (W9, D4). Notably, Gian Piero Gasperini’s players have netted 2+ match goals across all nine of their last league wins, keeping a clean sheet only once though. Atalanta’s inability to preserve a blank slate has seen them concede at least one goal in seven of nine SA home outings in 2019, which could be a problem against Sassuolo, whom they’ve failed to prevent from scoring in their last six competitive H2Hs at this venue.

Meanwhile, stuck in mid-table, the visitors have endured a mediocre league campaign, pulling off just nine wins in 37 SA fixtures (W9). Although o team has played out more draws than Sassuolo this term (16), only six of those stalemates have arrived away from home. The Neroverdi’s disappointing away form has seen them pick up barely one victory on nine SA road trips in 2019 (W1, D4, L4), with Roberto De Zerbi’s men scoring over 1.5 match goals only twice in the process. Also, three of four Sassuolo’s SA away wins have come against teams from the bottom half of the table, and all three have seen them beat their rivals to nil.
