Atalanta vs Napoli 3/07/20
03 July 2020
Atalanta will look to extend a two-game unbeaten streak in their Serie A H2Hs with Napoli when the two sides lock horns at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia this midweek.
Despite failing to pick up a league win in the opening two games of this calendar year (D1, L1), Atalanta have been a force to be reckoned with in 2020, winning all but one of their eight subsequent Serie A fixtures (D1), including the last six. The hosts have produced some high-scoring affairs lately, with all four of their previous Serie A games seeing over 4.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. In turn, the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia has been a venue of entertainment this season. Indeed, eight of Atalanta’s 14 league games held here have featured two or more goals in the first half (57.14%), with 13 producing over 2.5 goals in total.
Meanwhile, two successive triumphs in the post-pandemic period have extended Napoli’s winning run in Serie A to five, with the last four all witnessing the ‘Partenopei’ score two goals or more. What’s more, the visitors have racked up four consecutive Serie A away wins ahead of this trip, netting over 1.5 goals on three of those occasions. That’s a notable improvement compared to the fact that Gennaro Gattuso’s side bagged one goal or less in six of seven league road trips prior. But, a lack of defensive quality has seen Napoli concede at least one goal in eight of their last ten Serie A away games, which has been true in seven of their eight previous top-flight trips to Bergamo.
