Atalanta vs Lazio 16/05/19

16 May 2019

Atalanta and Lazio will face-off at the Stadio Olimpico for the Coppa Italia final as the Bergamo-based outfit look to post their third successive win over the Rome side in competitive H2H meetings.

Ever since a 2-0 Serie A loss to Torino back in February, Atalanta have been going from strength to strength, racking up an impressive 13-game unbeaten run across all competitions (W9, D4). What’s more, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men come into this encounter after securing five straight competitive triumphs. Interestingly, three of those wins have ended with the identical 2-1 scoreline, with Atalanta also scoring 2+ match goals in the remaining two. Surprisingly, just one of La Dea’s last ten competitive victories has been accompanied by a clean sheet, with ‘I Nerazzurri’ conceding precisely one goal per match in the remaining nine.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have bounced back after a disappointing 3-1 home loss to Atalanta, securing a 2-1 win over Cagliari last time out. Interestingly, three of Lazio’s previous five competitive games have ended with the same 2-1 scoreline (two in their favor and one against). Simone Inzaghi needs to find a way to solve his team’s defensive problems that have seen them fail to keep a blank sheet in nine of their last 12 competitive outings, allowing over 1.5 match goals on three occasions though. If ‘I Biancocelesti’ win here it would probably see Atalanta concede at least two goals considering the fact five of Lazio’s last seven triumphs across all competitions have seen them score 2+ match goals.
