AS Roma vs Borussia Monchengladbach 25/10/19

25 October 2019

For the first time in history, AS Roma and Borussia Monchengladbach go head-to-head in European competition, as the two sides meet in the UEFA Europa League (EL) at the Stadio Olimpico.

The hosts have started the competition off on the right foot, securing a commanding 4-0 home win over Istanbul Basaksehir, but they’ve played out a disappointing 1-1 away draw with Wolfsberger last time out. Roma’s drop-off in form has seen them pick up just one triumph in their last five games in all competitions (W1, D3, L1), with all of those draws coming in a row ahead of this fixture. However, the Giallorossi have racked up a seven-game unbeaten home streak in the EL group stage, winning six of those matches by scoring at least two goals (D1). What’s more, Paulo Fonseca’s men have netted 3+ match goals in three of five competitive home outings this term, although they’ve kept a clean sheet only once across those games.

Meanwhile, the visitors have endured a torrid start to their EL campaign, securing just one point from their first two matches in Group J. Unbeaten in seven of their previous away fixtures in the EL group stage (W2, D5), the Foals will be looking to bounce back after last weekend’s 1-0 away loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. A defeat at the Signal Iduna Park brought Monchengladbach’s four-game unbeaten run to a halt (W3, D1), and it was also only the third time this season that they’ve failed to find the net. Three of Monchengladbach’s last four away matches in all competitions have featured under 2.5 goals, with Marco Rose’s men scoring one goal or less on three of those occasions too (W2, D1, L1).
