Arsenal vs West Ham United 20/09/20

20 September 2020

Arsenal will be seeking a third consecutive Premier League win over West Ham United when the two teams lock horns at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

Arsenal dismantled newly-promoted Fulham 3-0 on Matchday 1 to confirm the wins over Chelsea and Liverpool in the FA Cup and Community Shield finals, respectively, were not a coincidence. Also, the Emirates has been somewhat a fortress this calendar year, as Mikel Arteta’s men have yet to taste home defeat in the Premier League since the turn of 2020 (W7, D2). Interestingly, while six of their seven wins during that nine-game sequence saw Arsenal score over 1.5 goals, four were accompanied by a clean sheet. West Ham’s visit could help improve that form, as the ‘Gunners’ have run out winners in ten of their previous 12 top-flight H2Hs held at this stadium (W10, D1), preventing their visitors from scoring on seven of those occasions.

Meanwhile, West Ham succumbed to a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United on the opening matchday of the season. But, they go into this encounter on the back of a comfortable 3-0 win over lower-league outfit Charlton in the EFL Cup. Away from home in the Premier League, the ‘Hammers’ have picked up barely one triumph from nine trips this calendar year (W1, D2, L6), with five of those seven results (win/losses) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. David Moyes’ men established a habit of falling behind without replying, surrendering the lead to their opponents nine times on the road last Premier League, without returning a single point (L9).
