Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur 01/09/19

1 September 2019

Sunday’s Premier League (PL) action brings us the north London showdown as Arsenal host Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates Stadium pressured to bounce straight back after last time out’s disappointment at Anfield.

Two of Arsenal’s PL wins this term were settled by a narrow one-goal margin, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netting a match-winner beyond the hour mark on both occasions. However, the North Londoners go into this massive clash off the back of a frustrating 3-1 away loss to Liverpool that saw them score third of their four PL goals after the 60th minute. Still, the Gunners have come out on top five times in their last eight PL H2Hs with the crosstown rivals at this venue (W5, D3), netting over 3.5 match goals in three of those triumphs. Moreover, free-scoring Arsenal side has bagged 2+ match goals in nine of ten PL home outings since the turn of the year – more than any other side in the English top flight.

Meanwhile, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes at the beginning of the new league season (W1, D1, L1) failing to preserve a clean slate in all three PL games this term. Although they’ve struggled to find the net in a 1-0 loss to Newcastle last time out, the Spurs have been lethal in the final third in the opening two PL matchdays, scoring 2+ match goals against both Aston Villa at home and Manchester City on the road. However, a 2-2 away draw with City has stretched Tottenhmah’s PL away winless run to seven games (D1, L6) leaving them with just two PL road triumphs since the turn of the year. Uncomfortable when away from home, Mauricio Pochettino’s men found themselves trailing their rivals in eight of ten PL trips in 2019, returning just four points from those eight games.
