Arsenal vs Liverpool 16/07/20
16 July 2020
Arsenal and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Emirates Stadium in a massive Premier League showdown, as the home side seek their first win in the top-flight H2Hs since 2015 (D4, L5).
The hosts take the field after failing to pick up a win in two Premier League outings (D1, L1), both of which saw their defense crack beyond the 80-minute mark. Indeed, a lack of concentration in the late stages has seen Arsenal concede at least once inside the final 15 minutes of play in four of seven league games since the resumption of football in June. The ‘clean-sheet’ theme will play a significant role here, though, as six of the Gunners’ seven Premier League wins this calendar year have seen them shut out their opponent. Additionally, 62.5% of Arsenal’s top-flight home wins this season have yielded a blank sheet as well as four of their seven triumphs in the Premier League home H2Hs since the turn of the new millennium.
The visitors head to London on a run of three league matches without a loss (W2, D1), looking to extend an unbeaten streak in the Premier League away H2Hs to five games (W1, D3). However, for Liverpool, goals have been at a premium on the road recently. Before securing a 3-1 win over Brighton, Jurgen Klopp’s side had drawn a blank in five away clashes across various competitions (D1, L4). In fact, the Reds have netted an average of 0.87 goals in eight Premier League trips this calendar year, which stands well below their season average of 1.70 goals scored per league away game. Interestingly, though, six of Liverpool’s nine top-flight away goals scored since the calendar flipped came either inside the opening or closing 15 minutes of play.
