Arsenal vs Chelsea 29/12/19
29 December 2019
The two struggling giants will face off at the Emirates Stadium this weekend when Arsenal take on Chelsea in a massive Premier League (PL) showdown.
Winless in their last three PL outings (D2, L1), the Gunners will try to post their first top-flight home triumph since early October. Therefore, Mikel Arteta will be looking to halt Arsenal’s five-game winless home PL run (D3, L2) at his debut at the Emirates. Notably, four of those matches during that five-game sequence have seen the North Londoners concede two or more goals, with three of those clashes seeing them allow precisely one goal in both halves. The one consolation for the home fans is Arsenal’s free-scoring form at the Emirates. They’ve bagged over 1.5 match goals in five of nine PL home fixtures, failing to find the back of the net only once in the other four. But, their defensive frailties could be setting them back here, as the Gunners have kept only one PL home clean sheet this season, conceding two or more goals in four of their last five such matches.
Meanwhile, the visitors come into this encounter hopeful that they can regain momentum after suffering three defeats in their last four PL fixtures (W1, L3). Also, the Blues will be looking to erase the memory of their previous three top-flight trips to Arsenal (D1, L2), with both of their defeats across those H2Hs coming via a multiple-goal margin and seeing Chelsea draw a blank. Even though they’ve lost twice in their last three PL road trips (W1, L2), Franck Lampard’s men have been far more convincing away from home so far this campaign. Not only that 56.25% of their total PL points have come on the road, but 22 of 33 PL goals they’ve scored so far have also arrived away from Stamford Bridge (66%). In fact, the Pensioners have netted 2+ match goals in all but two of their last eight PL trips, scoring one apiece in the other two.
