Argentina vs Mexico 17/11/18
17 November 2018
Argentina will face Mexico in a friendly match at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes in Cordoba, hoping to bounce back from a frustrating 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Brazil.
After a disappointing performance at the World Cup, Jorge Sampaoli had to leave the national team bench thus paving the way for Lionel Scaloni, who is appointed an interim solution. During his time in charge, La Albiceleste have gone through an overhaul, with many new faces being integrated into the first-team squad. Scaloni has started his adventure with a promising 4-0 triumph over Guatemala, after which he has been held to a scoreless draw to Colombia. However, the South American giants have secured another convincing victory by outscoring Iraq 4-0. But in their last match against the big rivals, the 2-time World Cup winners have suffered a narrow loss, having failed to show anything in the final third.
On the other hand, Mexico who once again failed to go past the World Cup round of 16, where they’ve suffered a 2-0 loss to Brazil, have been struggling to revive their football following the final tournament exit. El Tri have started their post-World Cup journey with a miserable 4-1 defeat to Uruguay before losing to the United States by a narrow 1-goal margin. Although they’ve managed to beat Costa Rica 3-2, Ricardo Ferretti’s players have slipped against another South American team, having lost to Chile by a goal to nil. In the past four matches, the CONCACAF-based side have conceded a total of eight goals, while they’ve only managed to find the back of the net on two different occasions.
