Ajax vs Panathinaikos 23/07/19
23 July 2019
Ajax will tackle the Greek heavyweights Panathinaikos in a friendly meeting that will take place at the Olympic Stadium Amsterdam at the beginning of this week.
Interestingly, the encounter with the struggling Greek giants will be one of two friendlies Ajax will play out against the Greek teams on Monday (another one will see them facing off OFI Crete).
Only one stalemate in their last ten outings across all competitions, including friendlies (W8, D1, L1) and with just two of those games featuring over 2.5 goals, indicates the Lancers go all out every time they touch the playground. Outstandingly, Erik ten Hag’s men have netted two or more goals on eight occasions in that span, although they’ve kept a clean sheet just two times along the way. What’s more, nine of those ten matches have featured goals in both halves, with Ajax finding the net in the first half eight times in the process.
On the other hand, the Greens have endured mixed fortunes at the beginning of their preparations, having secured a 3-0 win over Feyenoord before suffering a shock 2-1 loss to the Belgian lower-league side Beerschot VA. Such a twist has coincided with Panathinaikos’ recent struggling for form that has seen them grab three wins and suffer three defeats in the last six games of the 2018-19 campaign. Interestingly, all three of those defeats have seen To Trifýlli concede two or more goals, while all three of those triumphs saw Giorgos Donis’ players bag 2+ match goals.
