Ajax vs OFI Crete 22/07/19

22 July 2019

Ajax and OFI Crete go head-to-head at the Sportpark De Wachtelenberg for a friendly game that will be the first-ever meeting between these two sides.

The Lancers go into this fixture off the back of a 2-1 win over Watford, which was their third triumph in four matches this pre-season (W3, D1). Interestingly, all of those clashes have seen both teams score while three of them produced over 2.5 goals. Ajax’s run of impressive form over the past few months has seen them pull off 12 wins in their last 15 outings (W12, D2, L1). Notably, seven of those victories have seen Erik ten Hag’s men score four or more goals, although they’ve kept a clean sheet on just three occasions along the way.

Meanwhile, the Greek side has started their pre-season off on the wrong foot, having suffered a 3-1 loss to the Belgian outfit Eupen. That defeat has brought OFI’s six-game unbeaten run to a halt (W4, D2). Three of those wins have seen O Ómilos score over 1.5 match goals and find the back of the net inside the first half. Interestingly, though, five of OFI’s six defeats in 2019 have seen them concede three or more goals, with Georgios Simos’ men trailing their rivals at the halftime four times in the process.
