AC Milan vs Monza 06/09/20

06 September 2020

AC Milan continue their preparations for the new season as they welcome Italian lower-league outfit Monza to the Stadio San Siro.

Milan have transferred their outstanding form from the final stage of the last season into their first summer friendly, beating Novara 4-2 despite being two goals down early in the game. As a result, the Rossoneri are now unbeaten in all 14 of their outings since the resumption of football in June (W10, D4). Remarkably, each of those ten triumphs has seen Stefano Pioli’s side score over 1.5 goals, with nine yielding a full-time margin of two goals or more. At home, they’ve won all but one of their previous seven fixtures (D1), netting an intimidating average of 3.14 goals across that span. The majority (72.73%) of their goals scored during those encounters arrived in the second half of play (16/22).

As for the visitors, they finished the last league campaign with a whimper rather than a bang, failing to pick up a win in three consecutive matches (D2, L1). Despite suffering a dip in form, the ‘Biancorossi’ have secured promotion to Serie B after finishing top of Serie C with a whopping 16-point lead over second-placed Carrarese. Curiously, seven of Monza’s last ten outings have featured over 2.5 goals, with Cristian Brocchi’s men losing just once in the process (W4, D5). Notably, quick-fire Monza have opened the scoring on eight of those ten occasions! But, a potential worry for the traveling side could be that they’ve lost both of their previous clashes against Milan without scoring once.
