AC Milan vs Lazio 14/04/19

14 April 2019

Saturday’s Serie A action concludes with a massive showdown between AC Milan and Lazio at the Stadio San Siro as the two bitter rivals battle it out for the Champions League promotion.

Winless in their last four Serie A games (D1, L3), the hosts’ chances of returning to Europe’s elite competition has been compromised, with Atalanta and AS Roma now breathing down their necks. Just when it seemed Gennaro Gattuso has managed to fix Milan’s defensive problems – five clean sheets in seven SA games, the Rossoneri have slowed down again, conceding at least one goal in all five of their previous league clashes. Far more comfortable at home, the 7-time Champions League winners have collected 31 of a total of 52 of their SA points at San Siro (59.62%). Interestingly, six of nine of AC Milan’s league home victories have seen them beating their rivals by a narrow 1-goal margin although two of their last three SA home triumphs ended with the same 3-0 scoreline in their favor.

Meanwhile, the visitors are desperate to halt a disastrous 19-game SA road winless run against the Milanese giants, as they go in search of their elusive first win at this venue in the 21st century. Sitting three points below their next rivals and with one game in hand, the Eagles are very much in the race for the top-four finish. However, just like Milan, the Biancocelesti are not enjoying the best of times having pulled off two wins in their last five SA fixtures (W2, D2, L1). Lazio’s indifferent road form (W6, D3, L6) can be a major influence here, especially considering the fact Simone Inzaghi’s men have suffered two defeats on their last four SA road trips (W1, D1, L2). Far more relaxed at home, the Rome-based heavyweights have failed to provide entertainment when playing on the road, with just four of 15 of their SA away games featuring over 2.5 goals (27%).
