AC Milan vs Fiorentina 21/05/18

21 May 2018

AC Milan will try to save a catastrophic season by securing the Europa League promotion, and a match against Fiorentina at the San Siro will be critical for achieving that objective. The Rossoneri missed the opportunity to clear any doubts in the Europa League promotion race last weekend, as they’ve allowed Atalanta to come back from a goal down and get a draw, which will see them overtaking Milan on sixth place in case they beat Cagliari and Fiorentina leave Milano undefeated. Although Gennaro Gattuso managed to bring the Milanese giants out of crisis after replacing Vincenzo Montella on the bench, a debacle in the Coppa Italia final against Juventus and a few disappointing performances over the last couple of months have endangered his position, forcing him to look for a victory in the final game of the season. The Viola, on the other hand, still have some hopes of making their way into European competition although it requires Atalanta to lose on the road while Fiorentina must beat Milan, which is unlikely to happen. The Tuscan team’s last victory in the fashion capital of the world dates back to 2013, and Stefano Pioli desperately wants to end this tradition, but considering the importance of the game for the hosts, it’s going to be far from easy.

Andrea Conti is still out of the squad due to a severe knee injury, while Riccardo Montolivo picked up a red card last weekend and won’t be available for the encounter. As for the visitors, Vitor Hugo and Simone Lo Faso won’t be in the team as well as Jordan Veretout who serves out a red card suspension.
