1860 München vs Eintracht Frankfurt 12/09/20
12 September 2020
Städtisches Stadion an der Grünwalder Straße is the venue as 1860 München take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the first round of the DFB Pokal.
‘Die Löwen’ endured an indifferent 2019/20 campaign (W16, D10, L12) to finish eighth in the 3. Liga last season. Curiously, just one of their 11 competitive games since the resumption of football in May has ended in a draw (W5, D1, L5), with nine of those ten results (wins/losses) seeing the winner on the day score over 1.5 goals. 1860 München’s home matches in 2020 have been quite tight, though, as seven of ten have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W5, D2, L3). Notably, the ‘Weiß und Blau’ have won all but two of their nine competitive home clashes against Eintracht Frankfurt (D1, L1). But, the two sides last faced off in such match-up nine years ago.
On the other hand, Frankfurt bowed out of the DFB Pokal in the semi-finals last season, succumbing to a 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich. ‘Die Adler,’ though, enjoyed a strong finish to 2019/20, picking up three wins from the final four matches of the season (D1). Interestingly, each win saw Adi Hutter’s side concede precisely once and find the net inside the opening ten minutes of the second half. Away from home, five of Frankfurt’s six competitive matches since the restart have produced over 2.5 goals, while all but one saw both teams on the scoresheet. The vast majority (92.31%) of their goals scored across those clashes arrived in the second half of play (12/13).
