Bayern Munich vs Koln 21/09/19
21 September 2019
After a 3-0 home demolition of Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League, Bayern Munich continue pursuing their eighth successive Bundesliga (BL) title as they welcome Koln to the Allianz Stadium.
Although unbeaten in the first four rounds of the BL fixtures, the hosts have secured just two wins, which is deemed insufficient by their high standards (W2, D2). While both of their league draws seeing both teams score (a 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig on the road and a 2-2 home draw with Hertha Berlin), both of their wins have witnessed Bayern score three or more goals and restrict their rivals to a total of one goal. Moreover, the Bavarians have won 14 of 18 BL home games where they were regarded as favorites (W14, D4, L1), and Koln will hardly be an exception. Not only that Koln’s last win in Munich dates back to 2008/09, but they’ve also suffered five defeats in eight competitive visits here ever since (D3, L5).
As for the visitors, they’ve already sustained three losses since returning to the top-flight (W1, L3), with three of their four BL matches featuring over 2.5 goals and seeing both teams score. Although both of their previous BL trips saw Koln trail 1-0 at the break, they have still managed to return three points thanks to a second-half comeback against Freiburg (W1, L1). Unable to keep a clean sheet, Die Geißböcke have already conceded seven goals this term, allowing precisely one goal in the second half on three occasions so far. A much bigger problem for the Billy Goats could be that they’ve struggled to find the net in five of their previous eight BL meetings with Bayern, scoring precisely one goal per match in the remaining three.
